In the late 1760's an uprising against the swedish rule breaks out in Finland. after several years of war, the finns ends up victorious and in 1772, Sweden is forced to accept the forming of Karjalan tasavallan (the northern republic) for many years this new nation struggled with it's economy and poor infrastructure and was nothing more than a small and poor nation among strong neighbours. But in 1805 their rise to power began as they sided with the french empire in the napoleonic wars as their main enemy (sweden) sided with coalition. with guns and funds from france, the republic was able to build an army and aided the french in the fall of russia in 1813. With france as the victor in the napoleonic wars, the northern republic was given vast territory in the east, the baltic and northern europe. following a failed swedish invasion in 1814, the republic invaded a sweden weekened from years of war. by 1816, Sweden was no more. their victory spree continued when denmark (scared of the republic's recent power) declared war and was forced to sign a peace treaty folowing the loss of norway.
By 1820, The Finns had created a scandinavian superpower, owning all of scandinavia, and more.

Militia: little more than armed civilians, these men uppheald law and order while the regulair army was fighting at the fronts,
Musketeer: these soldiers acted as the home guard of Finland and still wore the old uniform from the 1760's, mostly for symbolic purposes.
line infantry: the backbone of the republic. these regulairs were the main force in most armies of the republic, trained with french doctrine, they were the first modern infantry and vital to the expansion
grenadier: like most other grenadier companies, these large men protected the flanks of the army. with the largest gathered from all over the republic, the republican grenadiers made other grenadier companies look like dwarfs.
The republican guard: the most feared soldiers in the republic, the republican guard was formed in the late 1790's, at that time, they weren't officially elite troops, but instead just consisted of soldiers loyal to death. it wan't until the napoleonic wars as their reputation as elites grew and they were reformed to elite troops. the most dangerous with the republican guard was that they carried rifles, giving them an advantage in accuracy and firepower.
Guard on horse: these men were basically republican guard on horse, these dragoon companies would ride into position and then dismount to fight the enemy on foot.
